Finca El Carpio 2022
Description
Carpio is a plot before it is a wine. Sandy ground, poor in organic matter, planted with old vines, in the southern strip of the D.O. Ribera del Duero. The name on the label is the name the land already had, and it is there for no other reason than accuracy.
History and Winemaking
Tempranillo — Tinta del País here — from old vines on a single plot. Sand that drains fast and holds nothing back, ground poor enough that the root has no option but to go down looking for what the surface will not give it. Low yields, and late ones.
Harvested by hand, with selection made at the foot of the vine where a decision still costs nothing to correct. Ageing in French oak, for as long as this particular year asked for and not for the number of months a category label would prefer. The intent is Burgundian; the accent is Castilian. It is a wine built to be kept.
2019 was the first vintage made under the decision that now governs this house: two wines, and nothing else shown to the world.
